Alexander Dotov

Investment Risk Management – Alts Assets

Alexander Dotov is the Head of Investment Risk Management for the Alternatives Asset Classes at TIAA. He is responsible for oversight of about $20 billion of assets across Private Equity, Energy & Infrastructure, Agriculture and Timberland backing the TIAA General Account and for assisting in the risk oversight of TIAA’s operating and investment subsidiaries. Prior to TIAA, Alex served as Senior Risk Officer at NYCRS, the fourth largest public pension plan system in the United States. At NYCRS, he oversaw about $200 billion pension assets across listed equities, fixed income securities and alternatives by selecting, implementing and utilizing a risk and performance attribution multi-asset platform and by assisting in investment manager due diligence, tactical asset allocation, the adoption of ESG metrics and hedging. Prior to his role in the public sector, Alex was a Managing Director at New York Life Insurance Company where he oversaw about $9 billion of equity, fixed income and alternative assets backing the NYL General Account. Before NYL, Alex spent 12 years in various trading, structuring and risk advisory roles on structured finance, derivatives and financial institution solutions desks at Citi and Barclays serving bank, insurance, pension and asset management clients. Alex graduated summa cum laude B.A. with a double major in Mathematics and Economics from Franklin & Marshall College, PA. He serves on the advisory board of EDHECinfra, a provider of market indices, benchmarks and valuation analytics for investors in unlisted infrastructure equity and private debt.
